COMMODORE AMIGA 500 EMULATION SPECS
This document specifies the specific requirements for Commodore Amiga 500 emulation in the WII-64 CHASSIS environment. Amiga emulation differs from consoles because it requires a licensed operating system (Kickstart) and specific floppy configurations.
1. KICKSTART ROMS (SYSTEM CORE)
The Amiga will not boot without a BIOS file called Kickstart. Wii emulators (such as UAE4Wii) require these files to be precisely named in the /roms/amiga/bios/ folder.
| Version | Purpose | Recommended filename |
|---|---|---|
| Kickstart 1.3 | Amiga 500 (Highest compatibility with games) | kick13.rom |
| Kickstart 2.04 | Amiga 500+ / 600 (Newer ECS Games) | kick20.rom |
| Kickstart 3.1 | Amiga 1200 / AGA (Advanced Games and Workbench) | kick31.rom |
2. FILE FORMS AND DISK MANAGEMENT
Amiga games were originally on floppy disks. Emulation uses the following formats:
- ADF (Amiga Disk File): Standard disk image. Many games require multiple disks (Disk 1, Disk 2...), requiring the use of the emulator's "Disk Swapping" function.
- WHDLoad (LHA/HDF): Optimal way for SSD user. The games are already installed on the virtual hard disk. This eliminates floppy disk changes and speeds up loading times significantly.
- IPF: Original copy-protected disk images (often requires a separate library).
3. CONTROLLER MODELING (INPUT MAPPING)
Since the Amiga is a computer, controlling it with the Wii Remote requires careful configuration:
- Joystick: Wii Remote (horizontal) or Classic Controller simulates an Amiga 1-button game controller.
- Mouse: The Wii Remote's pointer (IR sensor) simulates an Amiga mouse. This is essential in strategy and adventure games.
- Keyboard: Wii virtual keyboard or USB keyboard (Wii supports most standard USB keyboards directly from the back port).
4. TECHNICAL OPTIMIZATION (WII SPECIFIC)
- Video Mode: The Amiga used a 50 Hz (PAL) or 60 Hz (NTSC) signal. For best picture quality, Wii's 240p (Double Strike) mode is used on CRT TVs, matching the original Amiga experience.
- CPU Speed: The A500 used a Motorola 68000 (7.09 MHz) processor. Wii's PowerPC can easily emulate this, but you should keep the "Cycle Exact" setting on for compatibility with older games.
